HERE’S HOW
STEP 1
M easure your table and
note the length (L), width (W) and
height (H). Also note the perimeter
(P) - that is (length + width) x 2.
STEP 2
From the main fabric, cut
1 piece, (L + 6cm) x (W + 6cm) for
the top; 1 piece, (L + 6cm) x (H +
6cm) for 1 long side; 1 piece, (L +
8cm) x (H + 6cm ), for second long
side - the extra length is to allow
for door seams; and 2 pieces, each
(W + 6cm) x (H + 6cm) for short
sides. From striped fabric, cut 2
pieces, each (H + 6cm) x 30cm, for
doors. From multicoloured curtain
fabric, cut 1 5cm-wide strips that,
when joined end to end, will give
you a strip measuring (P + 8cm) x
15cm for scallops.
STEP 3
For doors, take the larger
of long sides, m easure halfway
along top edge of long side, then
pull a thread out alon g straight
grain. Another easy way to do this
is to fold it in half so short edges
meet, and mark fold.
STEP 4
Cut long side in half, along
where you removed thread.
STEP 5
With right side of striped
fabric facing w rong side of main
fabric, stitch one door piece to

half of lo n g side,
allow in g a 1cm seam . Z ig z a g
seam allow ance to neaten, then
fold door back to right side.
STEP 6
Press under 1.5cm on
remaining long edge of door.
STEP 7
Neatly topstitch pressed
edge in place on long side.
STEP 8
Repeat Steps 5, 6 and 7
for the other half of the door on
the other long side piece.
STEP 9
For windows, mark up a
25cm square template on scrap
cardboard and cut out. M easure
22cm down from top edge of each
long side half and centre window
template on panel. Carefully trace
around template with a marker pen.
STEP 10
Run a line of close
zigzag around the marked window
line - this is to prevent fabric from
fraying when w indow s are cut out.
STEP 11
Place w indow template
on transparent vinyl and cut out a
window, adding a 1,5cm border all
around. Using a bead of craft glue
alon g border edges, stick vinyl
w indow to right side of main fabric
within marked window line.
STEP 1 2
Cut 2 lengths of 10m m -
wide ribbon and glue over edges
of w in d o w on each side. Cut
another 2 lengths of ribbon and
glue in place at top and bottom, to
complete window ‘frame’.
STEP 1 3
Turn fabric to w rong
side and carefully snip aw ay main
fabric behind window, sn ipp ing
close to zigzagging.
STEP 14
Repeat Steps 9 -1 3 for
rest of windows - we centred 1 on
either side of doors, 1 in each short
side and 2 in remaining long side.
STEP 1 5
Butt door sections up
again st one another and zigzag
upper e d ge s together for a few
centim etres. W ith righ t sid e s
together, allow ing 1cm seam s,
stitch tent sides together, one after
another in order, forming a circle.
STEP 16
For scalloped edging, with
right sides together, join 15cm-wide ►
